CHARISMS – The Gifts that God gave us

God gave each of us our own unique body and intellect, along with our spirit and soul. It is truly amazing how different every human being can be. Genesis 1:27 states, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” The passage is implying that we have similar characteristics, for example two hands, two feet, one head, ten fingers and ten toes, etc.as being created by God and in His image. Humans are the same but yet they are very different. Each body has distinct features and shapes; each mind thinks differently, each spirit and soul act in their own ways. God’s creation of humanity is a profound mystery.
Why is there such unbelievable doubt when it comes to God giving each of us our own unique charisms? “Charism” is a Greek word used in the New Testament for ‘favor’ or ‘gratuitous gift’ or spiritual gift. It is a special ability given to all Christians by the Holy Spirit to give them power both to represent Christ and to be a channel of God’s goodness for people. Whether extraordinary or ordinary, (simple or humble) all charisms are meant to be used in the service of God. When we use these gifts to serve God they may be empowered by Him in a unique way beyond our natural talents.
As a seventeen year old high school student, any serious thought about God and charismatic gifts was totally beyond my belief system. God was about going to church on Sunday, period. Yet, there was much more that was still beyond my grasp. God brought a new path into my life. A desire was placed within me, created in a very supernatural way. There was too much detail to explain within a paragraph so I decided to write my autobiography entitled, “God in my Life: How God Speaks to Me”. Some mysterious, supernatural location existed as I lay on the ground beside my smashed vehicle, following a car accident. Within a year, I experienced strange knowledge of events to come that I quickly denied, and then they would happen. If I told anyone they could say I was lying and making it up for attention, so I never spoke of it.
The knowledge of upcoming events to both me and others continued for years and is still ongoing into the present. What I call my knowings were and are very serious. They can’t really be explained. In many cases, it meant the peril of another human, and it was generally devastating to behold. At first, I would know things in advance about myself and other family members. I would be shown what I would be doing in the future, uncertain whether it was real or not. Years later, in the knowledge, I would be told things about other people that I had some connection with. They always came true. Upon requesting advice, I was counselled to retain the information within and leave it to God for revelation. God was meant to be my total trust. My whole lifetime will never explain the strange charisms that I’ve been given by God.
I went in search of answers after writing my autobiography, hoping there was an explanation offered in this world. There were professors, mystics, and fortune tellers that sought to speak with me during my book promotions. Many job offers were openly extended in the guise of helping and healing people. There were religious people from all faiths and denominations that I met, both male and female. The same answer was given by all these people. God gifted me with a rare gift, even though there are other people like me in this world.
At first, guilt resided within me as I watched life stories unfold that I could have interfered with. After sufficient counselling, I learned to forgive myself for keeping my secrets. My charisms of teaching, knowledge and future prophecy were probably intended to be used in evangelizing. People need to become aware once again that God is active in our world. We have become complacent with God and think of Him more so as invisible and distant. This type of thinking is totally incorrect. He is with us and acting in our lives every day. I continually remind people that God isn’t somebody just for Church and on the weekends. God is an everyday part of every life.
Knowing God is not only about prayers to read, studies we accomplish, and general information we feel relevant to us. It is about an ongoing, daily, ever present relationship with our God. Yes, He is there when we really need Him but He is also looking for our love absolutely every day!
